Volunteering is a great way for a gaffer to give back and make a difference in their community. A gaffer can get involved in activities such as lighting or electrics for charitable events, productions or workshops. This can be done locally in your own city, online or even at other countries with organisations like The Lighting Design Collective, who use volunteer lighting designers’ time and resources to provide free design solutions for the non-profit sector. The Lighting Design Collective have created several projects that allow art and light to bring joy into peoples lives. Each project is different but all involve using light to help create an engaging space that draws attention and promotes conversation on important issues such as mental health awareness, support of victims of natural disasters and supporting vulnerable communities around the world.
