Cyber security engineers are responsible for protecting organizations from cyber attacks. This involves designing, developing and deploying solutions to protect networks, systems, applications and data from external threats. They must have a deep understanding of networking technologies as well as the ability to analyze potential vulnerabilities in order to create effective countermeasures. Their job duties include: analyzing network traffic patterns; configuring firewalls; implementing intrusion detection systems (IDSs); setting up virus protection software; creating policies and procedures related to computer security; monitoring system performance; conducting vulnerability scans on computers or networks; writing reports about IT risks and mitigation strategies based on findings gathered during threat assessments or risk analyses.
